Summertime Lovin'

There's no time of year we like better here than the height of summer. After experiencing 10 years of no summer in San Francisco, I still get a heady rush of pure joy when I breathe in the summery scent of one of my sunscreened kids.

Setting up a sprinkler on warm grass, joining a small crew for sidewalk chalk on toasty concrete, watching roses thrive while growing against the heat of a stone wall, setting up a lemonade stand, and actually selling lemonade because it's hoooooot outside, the pleasure of drinking iced coffee (who knew?), the sheer amount of flip-flops we own, the whir of a ceiling fan and the roar of the air conditioning when the heat gets too fierce... these are all things that were foreign to us in the summertime fog of the city.

I'm so thankful that our kids get to enjoy all these sensations and more during their long school break.
