A Tale of Two Bridges

What to do when you wake up to a summer Saturday morning without a swim meet or a baseball game? My vote was to stay home and enjoy not having an agenda, but Ambitious Sightseeing Daddy had another (admittedly better) idea: we threw the kids and the bikes in the car and headed to the newly completed bike trail attached to the freshly completed Bay Bridge.

While the Bay scenery will be breathtaking for years to come, we were anxious to catch the other sight that won't be there for much longer... the old segment of the Bay Bridge that runs parallel to the new bridge and is being dismantled, getting smaller and smaller each day. The new bridge is sleek, modern and white, while the old bridge looked clunky, rusty and much more utilitarian.

Despite one little rider (cough, Joey), who was not excited about the height of the bridge, and quizzed us excessively about the stability and strength of the railings, we all completed 2.5 miles each way, almost (but not quite) as impressive as the bridge engineering!
