The fridge ornamentation is the least of it. I feel like my life has turned into a bad mommy lit book. The plot goes something like this: Plagued by guilt that my child missed a whole week of school for a family vacation, I was suckered into a volunteer position planning the annual Halloween festival, along with another mom whose name I don't know how to pronounce (despite asking three times already). I've made do by addressing her with an upbeat, "Hey there!" every time I see her. Unfortunately, we've been together a lot over the last couple of weeks, rooting around in the school's supply closet for acres of purple and orange felt, googly eyes, spider tattoos, and meeting for coffee to discuss carnival strategy (who knew it could be so involved?) while I wrangle/ entertain a willful toddler. Every day, it seems like 2 or 3 new forms need to be filled out, a check needs to be written, or I need to sign up to bring a snack or volunteer in the class.
I thought the school years were supposed to be easy, but right now, it feels like a full-time job -- and I really don't know how those with a full-time job do it!!

Wait untill the guilt-trip filled notes come home. Or your kid passes a verbal guilt-trip filled msg., on the the things you should have signed/provided/kept home/sent to school/shown up for/donated for... I useally get a lot of the notes and reminders at the end of the year, or at breaks, when they clean out desks and lockers. And we ALL love to hate the 'SUPER MOMS' who have it all done, are dressed perfectly, their kid is on the honor roll, are perky and cheerful as they jog to school with their kid every morning, and then go back home to their sparkling house....
I plan to guilt the stay-at-home-moms to do it! Seems like a functional plan.
Don't worry. Your festival cohort doesn't have a clue about'Cecchin' either....
